Queen's Diamond Jubilee royal barge

As you all know the Spirit of Chartwell is the posh floatly hotel that moors in West India.Suspect the repaint job will be not that expensive as she will have to go back to her normal colours at some point.Main attraction for owners will no doubt be being to persuade a few more high spending colonists to join their comfortable cruises up the Thames, cos HM was aboard the "Royal Barge" but a few days previous .:)
The captain of S of C,certainly earned a few brownie points from me and a few other oiks when he allowed us come alongside his pristine paintwork and lock in with him a month or two ago on the Mayors rally.

A cruise up the river and a night aboard was recently advertised at about £160 quid, but not with HM on board one suspects.

They brought that upriver last year , doubt they will again.

Would only fit in the barge lock , needed an escort where ever it went , couldn't moor it anywhere ..... nightmare ...

Do not think you have to be an out and out Monarchista to enjoy this extravaganza, should be a blooming good day out for all, including .......a few self confessed Republicans.

just hoping do not get any cannonballs through my "Peoples Republic of Medway" pennant this time.:)

Sorry people - cannot agree. Her Majesty is our queen and deserves all our respect after so many of public service.

Totally agree. This is a refurb of an existing vessel and not a new build!!
We should be proud of our river 'Heritage' and 'Monarchy' which sets us apart from the Brussels Eurostandard. If it upsets the Merkosy twins, well I can live with that. We are happy to trade and visit them (with Red Diesel!!) but lets celibrate our heritage and not feel embarassed about it. Why should we be wandering around in 'sackcloth and woad' just to conform with the new Eurozone pact !!

meanwhile i believe Mark Edwards of Richmond has layed the keel of another barge intended for the same purpose... yet there is also talk of a Dutch barge being converted.... the Spirit story has been around for a couple of weeks. I am not sure where the truth is.

The story you point to contains little more than was already available from previous posts. It certainly doesn't tell us what the costs will be and who will be footing the bill (are the boats scrambling to participate being asked to pay an entry fee ? :D)

As a 'news' story, it certainly can't be regarded as the 'truth'' that Gavi seeks .......

I am a royalist at heart and believe tradition and pageant are a strong identity element of our country but that doesn't mean I am in favour of lavish extravaganzas, especially at a time of global recession.

Suspect the make over on Spirit of Chartwell will amount to little more than a few tins of paint and however much goldleaf is required to knock up a couple of royal insignias.
No doubt they will borrow a couple of flags from Windsor Castle on the day in question.

...anyway far more importantly .....seat photos appearing soon.

Methinks some members of these fora are not quite as technologically advanced as you are. When I was a newbie it took me ages to work out what some of those funny icons at the top of the edit screen mean. Also if one uses the quick reply feature the extra features disappear off the top or the screen (well they do for me). So here's how to do it:-

  1. Open the page to which you wish folks to link in another browser section.
  2. Highlight the URL page reference by dragging the cursor along it (mine goes blue for any text thus marked.
  3. While in the blue area rightmouse click and select "copy".
  4. Return to the edit post screen.
  5. Click on the icon directly below the white smiley face (looks like a globe with a pair of binoculars).
  6. When the expression "Http://" appears press ctrl and letter "V" and your page reference overwrites what's there.
  7. Press "OK" and your link appears twice - with the second occurrence in blue.
  8. Overkey the blue bit with your pithy comment and you're done.
Easy and quick to do and adds to the quality of your post...
