Hi, I’m doing my passage plan for the above trip from Queenborough to Burnham on Crouch. I’ve done the route before via Middle Deep. But this time as low tide at Whitaker buoy is late (1913 on 14 June, my planned arrival time there) I thought I might divert for a look at the Red Sand Towers enroute if conditions are favourable.

Any tips for getting across to Middle Deep from Red Sands? Should I just navigate to SW Barrow buoy then take a bearing to the right?

Also, is it safe and worthwhile to circle round the Red Sand Towers? I’d love to see them in real life.

Thanks in advance for any responses.
Kind regards John

When leaving the Swale on an ebbing tide I pass close W of the Redsand Towers and head slightly W of N from there to reach the SW Barrow. No hazards on the way apart from occasional anchored ships.

Red Sands to the SW Barrow is really a straight line. I keep a closer eye on the ships that are moving rather than the anchored ships.

The Medway Cruising Club has used the Red Sands as a lunchtime anchorage, which was pleasant but a bit rolly.

Brill, thanks C, will keep an eye out.

Thanks G. Lol, yep, we won’t be stopping for lunch :-)
