Tied up to the pontoon at the weekend; the charge was £10 for a lunch stop. Hmm, the Trust is a worthy cause but there's not much in the way of facilities so a bit steep I thought.
What was good value was the carvery at the Flying Dutchman for £6.50.

Yeah but parking for cars in Queenboro is free. And I can't get my boat down Oxford St. A better parallel is hapenny pier. Nowt charged for a lunch stop and there is a shower bl8ck on the pier (if you like that sort of thing). So I still think in terms of value fir money its too much. And add on cost of token to get back in.
Fair enough, the old ATL was going down hill and nobody wanted to take it on so I think we all welcomed the Trust and probably bought a plank as well. But as a bit of feedback on a service/commodity its currently overpriced for what it is

Anyone know how much they are charging for the barge or to pick up a buoy, is the difference enough to justify blowing up the dinghy (or using the trot boat) ?

All tides landing is £20 a night, I think the Barge is £10 a night.

Moorings/barge start at £14 per night for up to 10m then all facilities £2/m beyond that length

I hope the op doesn't think someone is getting rich on his £10?

If you add up the costs of the visitors mooring buoys, the Alltide landing and the maintenance required, wages for staff to collect the money, the trot boat to get ashore, a development fund to improve facilities.......etc etc I'd be very surprised if someone is smoking around in a Ferrari off the back of the income from this.

Yes it's busy for 3 months of the year at weekends, I'd be surprised if visitors bring in £100 a week from Nov - March even before accounting for the costs of collecting the money.

Use it or lose it chaps.

No offence to the op and I'm glad he's got himself a pontoon plank but do the math on income vs expenditure and then explain why it's too expensive.

Do they have staff collecting money in the winter months? Surely it would be more efficient just to have an honesty box and hope for the best.

I admire the Danish system. You arrive at some little port that only has room for about 10 boats , like Swaneke on Bornholm. You go to the machine on the Harbour office. Key in your length and how long you are staying and pay the amount that appears on the screen with a credit card. Take you sticker and put it on your pullpit. Low cost operation, staff wise and still collects the money.

You need to scroll a long way down to "Visitor Mooring Charges" which start at £7 for a 3 hour lunch stop, for LOA up to 10 metres.
Also please note the trot boat is now FREE and the price includes a code to get back onto the walkway, though if you still have any old tokens they should work.
I think it is very good value and as the OP said, "Use it or Lose it"!

I agree that perhaps the rate is high but not stupidly so, but my hope is that they are feeding it back into improving the facilities (long overdue) and hence i am happy to pay it as i will benefit. (Proud sponsor of a plank too!)

As Xyachtdave says, do the arithmetic and you will find that there's precious little left over to feed back into anything. Improving shoreside facilities is expensive, particularly with the added hassle now of having to get MMO approval for anything - even maintaining existing stuff - and then you're obliged to do it on the dates your submission says or re submit. I'm afraid improvements at Queenborough will still have to depend on creative fund raising ideas like their sponsored plank scheme - that was brilliant.
