I wonder if she will make it to the other side without prop vibration, engine failure, etc.
IMHO most new boats seem to take a couple of trips to shake the gremlins out.

Isn't that why they took her down to Spain before coming here? Shake down cruise, and let crew get used to her.

Does anyone have comparative figures for QM2 against QM1? I have only seen gross tonnage, i.e.volume, 150,000 tons and length 1132 feet. QM1 was 81200 gross tons, 90000 tons displacement, length 1018 feet, beam 118 feet and draft 39 feet. Although the QM2 is said to be the beamiest ever it could be that the displacement is no greater.

Ive got a paper given by her cheif designer somewhere. But I'm pretty sure she is heavier, because one factor given for the chosen size was the wish to avoid using aluminuim alloys in the superstructure. QE2 has them and has fatigue problems; QM2 is all steel.

I worked on the Canberra in the winter of 1962 and watched it's aluminium superstructure flex in a Force 12 in the Bay of Biscay; popping out the promenade deck windows! At least she was Belfast-built.

QM2 - built in France, owned by the Americans, I believe, and sails under the Red Ensign as a marketing 'flag of convenience' ?
