Qualifications required- Charter Business Greece

So spill the beans Vic, what do you know, a genuine interest, nothing more.

Hi Davy

I did some skipper charter for two well knew the Greek charter company some years back
By the way my YMO is commercially endorsed,
These company's also used skipper who had no qualifications
One skipper who was on a delivery trip with a new yacht, from Kos to Rhodes, he ended up wrecking the boat when he left it on auto and fell asleep and hit Symi
Another time I was asked to bring a yacht back with charter family on board, it came to light that the Greek skipper had fallen out with the charters over the children and abandoned the boat leaving the people who knew nothing and sailing on their own.

The reg may be laps when it comes to Greeks but I bet my bottom dollar , it would be a very different story if it was an out sider .

Not sure if this helps but we're currently undecided whether this will be a Greek or UK registered company (understand this will make a difference).

Cheers,

Nick
I had a watersports business in Greece from the 90's till 2001. I added a yacht to the business late on. The "coding" regs are similar to the UK and in some ways stricter.

You sound as if you are like me when I first started and a total "virgin" to the Greek ways. I tried to do things on my own and quickly learnt it was fairly impossible. This is how I went about it.......

Depending on where you are planning to operate from go to the local Port Police Office (the Chief was very helpful as his son needed a summer job:encouragement:) and find out where the regional Headquarters is located that deal with coding and if possible a name of the person in charge (it was also helpful to know the brand of their favourite whiskey;)). Go see them and ask them for the name of their friend/cousin/or other relative that can help you navigate the system.

Pay them for the help and all will be sorted.

Good Luck:)
