Went to see the QM2 today, mainly from Hythe. Bit disappointed - grace of certain previous Cunard liners lost in favour of slightly stubbily styled floating hotel look. :(

Ended up wandering round Lymington looking at a few used Nimbus and finally saw a Targa 27 in the flesh tied up to the fuel berth in the yacht haven. I like them more and more especially the outside lavvy! It was called 'Ventura' - anyone on here own it? Whoever it is they don't trust the wheelhouse door locks as there was a bicycle lock attached as a back-up.

A Targa 27 "in the flesh" orgasmic, must be the the most singularly unattractive boat available IMHO. Apparantly excellent hulls, though how that excuses the portaloo styling I cant imagine.

Its' like an early Lada handling like a porsche, still wouldnt buy the Lada

I agree. Often boat builders put 'form over function' which results in a compromise between looks and ability. The Targa is simply built to do a job, and all the features and reports that I've read suggest it is a very safe and practical performer which handles extremely well in all conditions.

I'm quite impressed, and would like to have a closer look at one.

I was lead to Targas by practical considerations -

1. I'm new to off-shore boating so I want a hull that will look after me in all conditions as it will be used all year round.

2. I want a reasonably small boat but it must have an excellent warm indoor helm for winter and a flybridge for the summer all in 30ft or so.

3. Will preferably exceed 40knots and cruise at 30.

4. Prefer walk around decks for easy use and so my dopey labrador doesn't fall off too often!

Things not required -

1. Swoopy lines and tinted half-moon shaped windows.

2. Creme leather seats and cherry wood cupboards.

3. Ability to impress people in the marina.

The only boat I've found that meets those criteria so far is a Targa 27 or 30 so what it looks like doesn't bother me too much. . . . . ;)

Also forgot to mention of all the boat companies I've enquired about their products, David Adams at Wessex Marine provided the most prompt response and by far and away the best literature pack with many brochures, articles and reviews as well as the usual guff. That sort of approach makes me far more likely spend £100k than some who shall remain nameless who seem to view everyone as a time-waster unless walk into the boatyard fanning themselves with a bundle of fifities. . . . . :)

Yep. Like them to. Theres nowt worse than tear drop bloody windows. and jelly mould shapes that are no use to man nor beast.

Surprise, surprise, I love them too. Only downside I can see is outdrive as against cheaper/simpler shaft set up. Oh and they are rather expensive on a £ per foot basis.
SO, does anyone know of a shaft driven 25-27ft boat capable of 30 knots with walkround deck and both internal & external helms ???
Come on get the grey matter working, please. £10 will go to the charity of your choice if your answer is the first acceptable one to fulfill these criteria.
I'M WAITING!!!

I agree with all that and would prefer it on shafts but it's a small compromise I suppose and I doubt I'll worry if I can get them to drop 2 Volvo D6's into a 27.1 when I'm doing 50 knots! :D

As for your question, have you had a look at the SB Offshore boats at:

http://www.scandiboatcentre.com/

They are Targa style but shaft driven and ones like the 29DC can be had with flybridges as well.

Please send the £10 to the charity for people waiting to get through the Hythe Marina lock in August association. :)

single engine for me please - need the additional 2 pipe berths and don't need the fuel consumption.
I am with Whisper - pretty much my ideal boat but I couldn't afford the price. I also agree with you re David's approach to customers and service, from what I have seen.
Unfortunately Santa failed to deliver for the 6th year in a row - despite it being the only thing on the list.
