Me too!!! In the early days there was only the dickens bar, a hotel with a bar and the esso motel, with a bar!! There was also one round the back, oldest bar in stavanger! Had many good nights around town!!
Went on it in september, too big to enjoy, but pleased when we hit hurricane force winds off Nova Scotia! Never seen waves like it,fortunately we were going into it, didnt bother the ship at all.thought about Ellen M in waves like that, they were horrendous.a very brave lady.
But what a Bloody Eyesore it is, obviously Hackney Council had a block of flats going spare and a ship yard had a bow and stern section left over so they cobbled them together and flogged it to Cunard. I work right across the harbour from it and if you study it the lines they don't work, it doesn't flow. Give me the QE II or old SS France now the 'Norway' any day, a lot more elegant and aesthetic IMHO.
Still not as impressive as when we had three cruise ships in the same harbour several years ago, or when they squeeze an oil tanker in and flood the bow tanks to get the prop clear of the water for maintainance, looks like she's going down by the bows! But yes we definitely have some good bars along the waterfront, especially now they all have outside tables so you can watch the boatlife.
