QDJ Rehearsal

Really nice to see a representative selection of boats and owners from all over the UK and not just a self selecting collection of Thames boats and owners from certain Thames clubs. :)

Couldn't see any NB's but I did notice a Hardy 27 in there somewhere !

Video Clip on the BBC News website (further down the page) about the launching of the Royal Rowbarge at Isleworth.

Anyone know what this is ? Looks like an offset prop !

I though that at first but it wouldn't be much cop as a propulsion unit for a boat that size, would it?

I'm now wondering if its a rather meaty speed log impeller so that they know when they're rowing fast enough for Her Maj to do a little water ski-ing ! :D

Pretty certain thats more than big enough to push that boat along

The boat has two electric engines as a fall back in case the rowers get tired. It is going down to Greenwich in the next few days for the naming ceremony by Her Maj, it will be interesting to see under what means it gets there :)

So with all that hidden "power" one has to wonder why they are Stopping the tide on the day? Not sure how long they will stop it for but this is what has been told to us on Imperial Wharf.

Because there is about 500 rowing boats involved , 99% of which i suspect have no 'hidden power'

Barrier is using that date for it's full annual closure , there will be no tide that day.

Should make it a lot safer for all involved :)
