Is'nt it time Q yachts with heavily armed peeps on board in the Indian Ocean started blowing skiffs out the water and holding any survivors to ransom?

You can put me down for some of that...hang on..mmm? ransom...nope, stand down on that, I've got nowhere to stow the camels exchanged..:D :D

I believe that we should recruit an army of PCSO's to patrol Somalian beaches and question every 'fisherman' under section 44.

Eventually they will learn to avoid the seaside or risk being repeatedly stopped by annoying and officious twats.

The is an argument that Q ships in ww2 were counter-productive and responsible for the deaths of many allied sailors. U boats used to surface to finish off a merchant ship to save precious torpedoes and, as a consequence, they were able to allow time for the crew to abandon.

As soon as they realised what was going on, the response was obvious. Stay submerged and blow every ship out of the water.

Translate that to the Indian ocean. These 'pirates' are tough, desperate, uneducated SOBs run by wealthy people who do not expose themselves to any risk at all. So far they have not AFAIK killed a single hostage, or even killed anyone during a boarding*. Now it suits them best to keep the heat as low as possible. What would happen if they thought that every yot might be hiding a squad of armed men about to start firing back? Do you think they would give up and go home ? Or just come in faster and harder and start shooting to kill much sooner ?

Remember these are the same guys with exactly the same weaponry that brought down at least 2 helicopters and kicked the USA out of Mogadishu.

*I believe someone was shot during an attack and injured and remains in captivity.

Ooops!

I thought that you had brought some sanity to the argument.

Whatever you do, never accuse me of bringing sanity to anything.

The parallel with Q boats in WWII is not valid, the Bosch's objective was to terminate cargo flow and dead people were irrelevant, OTOH dead hostages are no use to pirates ... in fact it may provoke a co ordinated international response and I'm sure they are aware of that.

However I am aware that the Q boat strategy would necessitate shooting to kill to be effective not something that Govts currently apparently have the stomach for.

I thought you had problems with blocked holding tanks ... or is that sorted now?

"Sanitary" Fnarr fnarr.

I don't have holding tanks - I pee directly over the side into the sea.

It was Haydn of Mucky Farter fame storing a festering soup of sewage within view of my living room window that was causing any problems.

Fortunately a gang of yacht delivery skippers - four in all - removed Mucky Farter and its holding tank back to Conwy a few days ago.

They returned a day later having drained the boat's drinks cabinet.

Rumours that Mucky Farter is to be sailed to the Somalian coast by a crew of Dorset PCSO's and threaten to release the contents of the tanks over their fishing grounds, unless the pirates agree not to be beastly, cannot be verified.

I forgot to mention that the casualty list during the visit was remarkably light, being just 38 budgerigars in total.

Story here: http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/nor...utes-at-y-felinheli-bird-show-55578-25184610/

"Fanciers feared a gas leak caused the tragedy. But after investigations by plumbers, gas workers, fire authorities and environmental health officers, there was no explanation for what happened at the village hall event in Y Felinheli, between Caernarfon and Bangor."

We know differently.

Ah - I knew it was in your neck of the woods - PD was always a bit smell - and that's before I came to stay for a while!

I am surprised at the number of people who think there really are pirate killing cruises.

Also, in some threads on the piracy problem there have been some vociferous voices claiming that naval and naval auxiliary ships cannot just blast away at pirates. But in 2008 the United Nations Security Council unanimously passed Resolution 1838 that allowed countries to use "military force" to repress acts of piracy along the Somalian coastline.

Simplified version:

According to Resolution 1838 the pirates in the sights of Wave Knight guns and marines were fair game as the ship and crew had a UN Mandate to "apply military force".

Or you could build a 'yacht' around the conning tower of HM Submarines and torpedo the buggers.

I rememeber being on a ship and seeing what appeared to be a yacht in distress....We altered course and made haste to at there asap at all of 7 knots!!!!!! OLD SHIP :) We took a more detailed look at the yacht when a USA navy plane gave a demo of how to signal GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE at zero altitude in front of us.

Yep submarines pretending to be yachts and half sunk fishing boats are at risk of getting unwanted attention from good hearted passing ships.

Wot, u dowt they reel? Should I request my deposit back?

I was unable to judge the inflection in your voice as you mouthed the words as you typed. A smiley would have helped!

I get emails from people with links to Яussian Killing Kruises, with one asking me to sign a petition condemning them.
