Before I make a silly move, can someone confirm that placing my brand new shiny ss shore 16A power socket around 200mm up from the aft deck level is OK?
On the following pic, we are talking about the top of this white blanking plate (already removed and new piece of ply scarfed in place)

I'm asking as original placement of shore power was in a fugly hatch on the stbrd bulwark, just above the main cleat and I'm not going to keep it there!
Proposed place is nice and dry (f/b on top and side pillar coming down sheltering from wind, rain and spray)
Could bring it higher up if needed, but I feel it's just going to be in the way for no apparent reason.

cheers

David and Paul thanks,

yes it has a shinny ss cover with a foamy insert that seals on the socket. Looks like this:

And the place its going to go is this:

For myself, I'd say that if there was the possibility to locate the socket in a locker in the cockpit, I'd prefer that. To my eye, it is neater than having the socket on show, there is better weather protection, and also it keeps that expensive Marinco connector out of sight (I had a shorepower lead with a Marinco connector on it stolen from the boat in Brighton a few years ago).

Point taken Jimmy, however the lockers/steps that's going to be next to this is going to be used for the lines :(
Further, since it's custom made plywood cabinets we are talking about and I do hate the various plastic lockers that change colour unpredictably when they feel like, I'd rather have it in view. SS will remain SS and I can always wipe/polish it if I feel so.
Mind, once MiToS is complete, there shouldn't be a need for shore power as I should have a mini offset hardtop on the f/b with a reasonably sized photovoltaic panel keeping the batteries toped up. Was talking to my mate that did it last winter his Princess 420 is now with it's batteries 99% full throughout our winter (OK, I understand that doesn't mean much...)

Jimmy, maybe the Volos mafia is more vigilant than the Brighton version? Drop a couple of bob to the 'erberts on look out, and your pride and joy will be properly guarded :)

er, you got something wrong there P.

It's not a secure marina with gates and all that. It's just at the open parade of the city waterfront. Whoever wants goes wherever, no marineros or anything like that. No security cameras, nothing. Slight difference with my mooring is that it's on a floating pontoon (no fingers though, just straight med mooring) so ppl walking on the parade need to turn into this pontoon to visit around 30boats moored there.

PS. Jimmy the blue plug was around 20something euro. The watertight plug cover is expensive, but didn't buy it yet.

Sounds very nice Vas. I was only joking really :)

I had the 32A version, and the cost of the plug and shroud together was something silly like £100, iirc. Enough to make it worth someone's effort to walk on the boat, unplug it, and walk off with it.

Jimmy, checked again I've got a 30A version (mind that's Oscilatti (sp?) not marineco)

anyway, deed done, chopped cables, rerouted, drilled a 72mm hole and got everything working (unsurprisingly, not really the most difficult thing I've done thus far...)

so just for closing the thread, couple of pics of the finished article:

Nice job. PS Osculati might be the manufacturer you're referring to?
