seems to not matter what the SoC of the batteries is. Right now the voltage is 57V, and the batteries are drawing 16A at 14.8V, (a couple of amps are being used to power stuff).

Normally, as I understand it, the open circuit voltage of a single panel is under 20V, but this depends on the number of individual cells connected in series within the panel. I think you must have a panel that has a higher than usual number of cells.

I believe they are Canadian Solar 1.6m x 1m domestic panels with 60 cells and about 37V open circuit. Bimble Solar about £85last September.
