Looking to "invest" in some new ones and unsure about the pros and cons of each type of material?

I would be grateful for some enlightenment

Thanks

Nick

Canvas is lighter and therefore easier to put up or down. I think there are a wider range of colours too.

However Canvas will not last as long as PVC as eventually it will lose its "Waterproofness" and probably stain.

I think Canvas is slightly more expensive as well but theres not much in it.

What you could do is a compromise, buy full set of Canvas for during the season and a PVC Tonneau to cover it off season.

Hope you and Joanne are keeping well, Cheers Mike

Nick,

On our previous boats (including a Corniche) we always had blue canvas covers made. When we got this one we went for a white PVC and are delighted with it. It's nearly 2 years old now and looks like new. Other boats on our pontoon comment on the hood and it's lack of condensation.

We are in Hythe, come and check ours out. I can recommend the company that made ours. They are local, always showed up on time and finished on time.

From my experience canvas looks better particularly in a dark colour, however pvc is more water proof. I have had both sorts on various boats and currently have a canvas cover for the season and I put my old but waterproof pvc cover on for winter.

We inherited a PVC type canopy, dark blue with the benefit of being light grey inside (makes it very light and airy). Looks great all of the time (no mould, stains ectc whcih canvas is prone to), virtually maintenance free and can be left on all year round. Only problem is condensation inside but only occaisionally and no real trouble.
No competition in my view.
