My Parker 21 is about the same size and weight and I'm very glad to have pulpit, pushpit and guardwires. I once sailed on a J21 which doesn't have them and it felt very precarious.

I had to replace a Centaur pullpit last winter.

If you can't get a 2nd hand one, don't go near the swindleries. I had one made to measure for half the price at a local fabricator. If you have the old one as a pattern it helps.

Point taken - it would be useful if there was an easy way for him to get through lifelines and over side of boat when alongside. Saves tripping up.

He needs a thing called a pelican hook. They cost a lot more than they look as if they're worth but they can be disconnected and reconnected without losing the tension adjustment on the guardwire.
