Pushpit mount for BBQ...

I was going to make a cheap and nasty boat BBQ, i just need to find a mounting for the pushpit railing. Cheaper the better.

Preferably the bit that clamps on to the railing plus a 6 inch bit away from the boat so i don't drop hot coals all over the place.

BBQ would be a cheap circular one from TESCO.

Any ideas?
 
jeez that is pricy! I'm not worried if it's stainless or anything, likely it'll only get brought out once every year knowing our summer's.

Hi, I made my pushpit barbie from two oven pans, one aluminium, one S/S hinged with two small shackles to allow for their different sizes. A cheapo disposable barbie fits in easily. A S/S motorcycle spoke props it open when required. I used a Chinese accessory Harley Davidson handlebar mirror clamp to fit the pushpit rail-1" bars on Harleys- which cost about six quid. A short piece of S/S studding to joins it to the barbie. Works well. A word of warning. I saw a couple of nice steaks and a few grilled tomatoes fall into the oggin when a barbie was clipped to a horizontal rail and the heat transfer loosened it and the subsequent swivel dumped the food. I clip ours onto a vertical support-only left or right and up and down movement possible this way!
 
that's some great info, thanks. I would never thought about the heat loosening it.

6 quid sounds a lot more palatable too!
 
We have a Magma Marine BBQ (with gas bottle) bolted to the pushpit. It's worked like a dream for 9 seasons and is certainly worth the original outlay. 100% reliable and easy to use.
 
My BBQ sits in the cockpit. Do you plan to BBQ when it's rough enough for that to be a problem?
 
I should add that in my opinion the "boat BBQs" only exist because boat owners like to buy things. We all wander around in the chandlers when we've run out of essentials and the chandlery therefore has some other things for us to buy which are not only not essential but also not necessary...
 
I know what you mean but ideally I'd like to keep most of the space in the cockpit for people.

certainly wouldn't be using it in any sort of weather!

Will you ever have enough people that there won't be room? My boat is tiny but I can manage the BBQ and 3 people in the cockpit quite easily.
