Any one got a good design for a med style warp container ?

I have seen a plastic 22 litre jerry can with the top cut off attached to the pushpit on some charter boats .

However had previous experience of plastic jerry cans for water getting brittle under UV light
.

So are there any other practical DIY designs out there ?
 
Having been given a couple of mine buoyage warps, my intention is to use a reel. It would be nice (and probably fraught with difficulties in design and operations) to have the reel powered and located inboard in a self draining locker.

Time will tell if this turns into a pipedream!
 
I just hung my anchor on the pushpit top rail (protected with plastic pipe), then looped the 8m of chain over it, then looped the rest of the 60m of warp over that, lashing it all to the pushpit when under way.

OK, it's crude, and it takes a bit of prep before entering harbour. You have to flake out the warp, then flake the chain on the deck, and you need the space to do that.

The rope from the chain then led around a jib winch . . .

Going in bows to was then a doddle. SWMBO hitched the anchor off the rail into the og on my word, then wandered up forward to do the bow warps. After about 20m of warp was out, I put a little friction on the warp (gloves on!) to dig the pick in. After that it was just friction as required to stop the boat at the quay.

Then deal with the friction from SWMBO because I stopped just that little bit too sooooon . . . and doing the splits over the pulpit isn't her favourite activity. Ah well.
 
Heres one neat tip I've been saving for years. Might suit.

Hi Catmandoo , i have used buckets/jerrycans etc for years and whilst they do work we have splashed out over winter on having a stainless container made with roller attached to back edge for hauling anchor up .They look very smart which to be honest is main reason we are changing and will tidy up pushpit consderably .The job is costing 170 euro from stainless guy in Nidri.Im afraid i havnt got his real name although if you proceed out of Nidri towards Vliho his workshop is about half a mile up on the right .He has done loads of jobs for other guys and work looks very good .I am picking finished product up in a few weeks so will get his proper name and contact number if you like .
 
Our solutionis a pushpit mounted SS can -bought from a chandlers in Denmark or Sweden. This holds an 8 Kg. grapnel and a couple of metres of chain. In use the chain end is hooked onto an Ankeroline tape with a carbine hook. The Ankeroline pays out under slight tensionand is fairly sesy to get at for braking. If you look up www.watski.com you should find the can described as DRAGGKORG costing about 630 SEK (divide by 13.5 for pounds. The tape reel they show is anodised ally. Its called NAWA ANKAR/FORTONINGSRULLE costing 1300 - 1700 SEK. I'm afraid that is from the only catalogue I have to hand. THe can will just hold the 8 kg. grapnel but not a bigger one.
There must be a lot of other suppliers

[/ QUOTE ] His name is Phil. He's been there for over 7 years. A highly reliable, if very busy, man. He'll want to see your boat and take all his own measurements, and he'll make design proposals. He's done quite a few rear anchoring jobs on different boats. Everyone knows where he is - just ask - it's a small town.
