I have recently tried Miami Boat Co Pure Seal - After examining the makers instructions, I favoured applying to a cleaner base rather than over the existing anti-fouling. Therefor I spent many, many hours removing the old antifouling (around 8 coats) from the bottom of my 22ft twin engined cruiser and taking the hull back to the gelshield, thoroughly cleaning, then applying a double coat of Interlac black as a colour base, over which I roll coated two coats of MBC Pure Seal (which was purchased at approx four times the cost of traditional antifoul - but thought to be a good investment, replacing the cost of lifting and re-coating for the next several years) on both the hull and outdrives/props. Alas, I have been totally disillusioned regarding this product -
IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL!!!!
After just a brief period (approx three months) of being back in the water (Poole Harbour), the bottom of the boat is worse than I would expect it to be in three years regarding marine growth and barnacles - I think it would have faired better if I had just used Dulux Gloss! I am in the process of contacting Miami Boat Co. to hear their comments, as I will now have to lift the boat once again, at great expense, even before the end of the summer season, to clean and see how I can remove this total waste of time coating, which has all the marine growth defence characteristics of solidified blancmange. My recommendation for other boat owners considering Pure Seal is DON'T, you will be (as I am) bitterly disappointed and very much out of pocket!
I have taken photographs of the hull and outdrives for submission to MBC along with the complaint and would be happy to email them to any interested parties should you so desire.
