Hi all has anyone any experience of this remarkable product that claims that it is an everlasting antifoul paint. Qutie expensive initially but if you dont have to do the annual lift out and paint will repay in a couple of seasons easily.

Well has anyone tried it yet and is willing to let us all know if it does what it says on the tin

Sounds too good to be true. So who is going to be first to try out a paint at £178 pounds for 2.5 litres! without any feedback from previous users?

Don\'t touch it....yet...

It's too early to tell whether this is a product which works. The trademark was only registered in May this year, and according to UK Data Miami Boat Co is a non-trading company. The cost of applying the stuff is high, because you need to strip the existing antifouling. And, if the stuff doesn't work, it'll be necessary to strip it completely before applying anything else - which will be equally costly. So the sensible choice would be to wait and let other people be the guinea pigs.

This is something YBW should have been on the ball with, testing new products. Seems crazy that it's their readers who are having to do all the donkey work.

Maybe there are plans to review antifouls??? All a bit late though if so coz we need to know now.

Thinking about it, there could be no better place than here for miami boats to supply a few free tins of the stuff. If it works they'll get some good endorcements and lots of free advertising??

Looking back throught he previous posts this year, YM is supposed to be testing it on one of their boats so I guess we'll read something in the spring.

No need to strip back to GRP

Such is the unique nature of Pure Seal, providing the substrate is clean, solid and grease free, it will adhere to any surface including GRP, aluminium, alloys, metals, conventional anti fouling paint – even rubber bitumen. It will then cure and provide a protective coating to which Phyla cannot adhere so creating a toxin free anti foul coating which will last for years.

Re: No need to strip back to GRP

lots of products have come and gone making this claim. Where is the research and proof?

The boat scrubber people had a 'it's so slippy nothing will stick to it' product that put them out of business last year. This sounds like more of the same....

still IF it works it would be great /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have looked into this product. YM are supposed to have it on test at the moment, but don't know when results will be published.
You dont have to strip off your old antifoul, all it needs is a good base to adhere to. However, the drawback is that if it doesn't work, you cannot overpaint it as nothing sticks to it.
I am going to put some to test on my rudders over the next 12 months and if it works, will do the rest of the boat.

re: Kev B they should provide some free tins to people here for advertising etc...I've tried this approach via e-mail today trying to get samples for my own boat and the boat I work on and despite that being a fairly high profile boat they could not supply any more samples as it was costing them too much...Guess we'll have to wait for the YBW tests...Iain

Seeing as you've already been in touch with them /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif why not send them a link to this thread and ask for their comment?
