Can anyone suggest a simple way of priming a water pump? It's a 12v Aquaflow pump which I have just realised won't self prime and the water tank was emptied over the winter.

Cheers.

If the pump is below the level of the top of the water tank simply fill the tank and open the tap without the power to the pump if you like. Gravity should do the rest.

If pump is above this level then you could try back filling through the pipe to the tap but wuld think that the system needs looking at in that case as this is a problem that will keep reoccurring. Doubtless someone wiser will e along soon with an easier suggestion.

Good luck

Chas

Thanks for the replies. The pump is below the level of the tank so I guess it just needs forcing through the pipe and/or filling from the other end as suggested. It was fine all last season so hopefully it just needs this initial prime and all will be fine.

This an in line pump powered via a switch incorporated into the tap?

If its below the normal water level in the tank (guess it must be!) fill the tank and open the tap before turning on any power. That should flood the pump and it should work once the power is reinstated
