Pump-out Cards and Lack of Lockies

Came across this from LeeSan Marine Sanitation

And this from the conditions website!

  • The pump-out facilities at Mapledurham Lock are available during lock keepers hours.
Interesting. I wonder if they’re outsourcing all water and pump out installations to Lee Sanitation?
Also interesting that use is restricted to lock-keeper hours - presumably to stop vandalism/misuse, but not very convenient

,,,,so only if the lock keeper is there. With the summer reliefs still laid off then the lockies will all be double/triple manning this Easter. So you may only have a one in three chance of anyone being around to help you for pump outs or indeed anything at all.

They will be split manning. In that one person is split across a number of sites.

Double or triple manning represents an uplift of that amount over standard crewing, which is not what is occurring.
An EA expression designed to cover their HR shortfalls.

From the Lockies point of view they are double or triple manning as they are having to do double or triple the work and visit the extra sites everyday. It really doesn’t matter what you call it, it will not change the amount of staff the EA has.

Sorry to be "picky" but they are not doing any extra work - just managing their day differently. There is also an understanding that when double sited the lockie will remain at the primary lock and only attend the secondary if there is need to do so.
It will not have escaped your notice that, when travelling between locks, both will be unattended.
