I've got to replace the cutlass bearing this winter. I'm working on a puller for the bearing which doesn't look too complicated but I'm wondering how to get the prop off. I don't want to bash it off so I'm wondering if anyone has made a puller or bought one from a motor factors?

Thanks ... I had found that one on Google. It looks a bit pricey to get made - I was wondering if anyone had made or found something simpler.

We had a Gori 2 bladed on our X 99 - the prop was retained by a tesselated (I think that's the term) nut with cotter pin. Remove nut and the prop simply pulled, by hand, off.

I've always used the "double hammer" on the 4 occasions I've actually removed my Brunton prop from the shaft. Usually for cutless renewal I withdraw shaft and prop as one unit from the "soft" drive. It makes it considerably simpler to replace the cutless, than having the shaft in situ. Beside it allows me to check shaft wear by using a vernier as well as by just looking - usually just as important as the new cutless bearing.
Most boats have the problem of rudders getting in the way, so it's a golden opportunity to check rudder shaft bearings and shaft seating in the rudder. However, that means thinking ahead and leaving enough height to drop the rudder right out.

Thanks for these further replies - here's hoping mine will just pull off! I'm not holding my breath.

I'm hoping to do the cutlass bearing without removing the prop shaft but might re-think that as I think that may be possible on a Sadler 32 without taking off the rudder.
