Strange really, not supposed to pass on overheard VHF conversations I know (As if...) but this was on CH16 so surely not a private conversation?

Ah, the interception of communications. We have a national thing about it. When you get you cert of competence you sign a bit to say you will never disclose what you hear on the VHF despite it being open to all. There must have been a Mayday Relay exclusion to that privacy clause but I don't remember it.

There wasn't a punchline this time so they didn't sink. One did recently though I hear on a sunny sailing day too!

I thought that the salient point about this rule wasn't the passing on of information heard per se (because there are numerous examples of when that is the whole point of the transmission!) but that the forbidden element was using the information you have heard for unfair gain or advantage. Or words to that effect.
