Puerto D'Andratx

Spent two nights there a fortnight ago in a 40 footer. Cost Euros 65 per night. It certainly is a nice set up and beautiful restaurant / swimming pool. Bit of a walk from visitors' berths to the clubhouse.

It's a nice place but not good to leave your boat unattended for long periods over the winter as it gets hit very hard by storms. Over the last few years there have been many boats very badly damaged or sunk!

Anyone know the costs/availability of moorings at Club Vela Marina in Port Andratx, Mallorca?

It looks a stunning place, and very well run

Thanks

You'll be lucky. A mate of mine has had his name down for a 10m berth there for years. Things might have changed since I left Majorca with my boat last year, given the recession and the matriculation tax fiasco, but AFAIK, Andraitx is one of the most difficult places to get a berth in Majorca. However its always worth calling them

If its Majorca generally you're interested in, the Palma Bay marinas are more likely to have spaces

Failing those there are marinas at Arenal, Puert Portals and Cala d'Or which may have spaces

I'm not sure you can say that. Yes there was a bad storm during winter 2008/9 which did wash a few boats up on the shore but AFAIK, all of those were moored on buoys. I'm not sure that any of the marina berthed boats were damaged but maybe you know more than I do. Also during our 5 yrs in Majorca we were only aware of that one storm hitting Andraitx although, yes, it is open to the west and any westerly gale would push a swell into the harbour

Club Vela is fairly well protected, the public moorings are a bit more open but there is no chance of getting on there anyway.

The up and coming place to be is Port Adriano, worth a look there.

Not sure on your size but 10m e50 ish + at peak.

Berths available in Adraixt when we've been, not a problem.

Rest of Island pretty much same as well.

This 'Mallorca Berth difficulties' thread is un-true certainly from my experiences in last 2 years in the more regular 10m ish sizes, never refused ever anytime / anywhere inc Menorca !! Bigger stuff maybe but even thats getting easier and surely the agent or Spanish speaking Skipper just sorts it out. Does irritate me to keep reading the glossys with the 'Berth's For Sale' Broker's quoting 'its the only possible way to get a berth' - not true.

FWIW (couldnt resist) Mallorca's a lovely permanent base / cruising ground with countless perfect anchorages and after all "its only 100 + miles" (across a pretty nasty & lonely bit of water) "to visit" the folks 'enjoying' St Carles ?? !!!!
