If you file a claim with your insurance and describe in all detail they certainly will turn to the event organizer in aim to hold them liable. This is what (you pay them to) do !

Further, as it's a third party claim, it shouldn't touch your excess as the insurance company will reclaim whatever they pay you from the responsible party. My insurance covers legal expenses, too.

Thank you, very good point, I hadn't considered that it being 3rd party claim, wouldn't have excess to pay. Then perhaps shouldn't result in increased renewal premium? I shall call insurers, for clarification, whilst still pursuing direct with the event organisers, port authority I think. According to marina office W/E guy today, this has happened before, gets resolved ok.
