Can anyone reccomend a good pub on the river with moorings or ajacent to moorings big enough for a Stevens 1040 1.5-2hrs away from the MDL marina at Windsor?

Angel on the Bridge will be your best bet. Immediately upsteam of Henley Bridge on the right bank. Very busy with a riverside terrace. There is a mooring immediately adjacent but will be noisey if staying overnight. Failing that plenty of mooring, for a charge, a short stroll upstream in Mill Meadow.

Gosh there are loads, although I don't think the Angel on the Bridge at Henley is a good recomendation better to walk into town and its more than 2 hours anyway. First stop would be Boulters lock Inn with pontoons, then Cookham moorings loads of great pubs just a short walk. Carry on to Bourne end and the Bounty, **** food but a great atmosphere, then moorings on your right at Spade Oak for the Spade Oak pub a 100 yards away, Marlow next with the town moorings and loads of choice.
You need to chill out a bit on the river and forget the coastal boating mind set, no need to plan just see what you find

Only called in there once whilst walking to Bourne End. Very busy with a whole range of people families, walkers etc.
Odd sort of place looking a bit tacky but they did have a real ale festival on at the time and were all very friendly!
A tad noisey if you moor too close I would guess, better to moor in the meadow below.

Don't know what happened there. For some reason I had been reading a Henley thread and thought he was asking for a pub in Henley. Cancel my last. Go for Cookham.

Have a look at www.cookham.com there's a list of pubs and restaurants etc with web links. If you don't want to walk far, moor close to the saling club as its a short walk to the crown pub and closer to the restaurants. Maliks is great for a curry too.

Most people seem to leave the marinas and automatically turn up stream.
As an alternative, you could always go down stream through Windsor, along Runnymead and have lunch at The Three Horseshoes in Laleham. But book first.

The Bounty is very Marmite, no car access so full of walkers, some boaters, lots of dogs and kids in the gardens. Can get very very busy at key times and only a relatively small serving bar. Not a bad selection of beers and always a good atmostphere. The o/h loves it but I'm not so enthralled.
I love Boulters, great beer (Tribute) and sitting out on the balcony (if you can get a seat) is great.
My favourite place would be Marlow, good selection of food and drinking establishments, The Two Brewers on St Peter Street is my favourite, good choice of beers and lagers and great food (though not the cheapest). Also if your moored by the park pop to the Cafe in the Park for great coffee and amazing homemade cakes.

The Swan Hotel in Staines (errr, Staines-on-Thames) was quite good the few times we went there. Not sure how deep the moorings are though. They were OK for our little Seamaster....There is the Runnymead Hotel too down that way (but they wouldn't let us in with dogs of course!) we did go there once BD (before dogs) in the boat and it was very nice, we didn't eat though.
