Anyone know the max temp at which PTFE tape can be used?

Up to 60 degressC OK?

The spinning thing in the top of my dishwasher is no longer spinning as the bearing (plastic) has worn to the point of leaking, therefore not enough pressure to spin the rotor.

I did pad the bearing out with electrical tape (worked for a month)

I would turn a new one (but can't get to the lathe at moment)

So is PTFE ok? Not toxic is it?

Well we use it all the time on central heating systems and most gas boilers will reach up to 82 deg C with no problems and if a stat fails it may reach 100 degC. and no it isn`t toxic as we also use it on drinking water supplies.

Ptfe (teflon) is used as a nonstick coating on frying pans. They get pretty hot and are (hopefully) not toxic at least within their normal operating temperature range.

See This site for the properties of ptfe (usable temperature range is -200C to 300C)
