Venturing abroad for the first time in a few weeks and just getting all the paperwork together.
One thing that wasn't going to be an issue, or so I thought, was evidence of proof of ownership as I have the neat package from the brokers with all the details inside.

However, I did realise last night, that as we renamed the boat when we bought it, I only have evidence that we purchased a boat called one thing, and yet will be turning up in a boat called something completely different.
I do have the original SSR part III with the old name on, I re-registered it with the new name so the SSR is the same, also both documents show the same hull ID.
Will this be sufficient to prove it's the same boat to any enquiring authorities?

Although the name is one way of identifying a boat, unless it is registered on Part 1 there is no record of the name being specifically linked to the boat. You have to rely on the totality of the history information - make of boat, engines, HIN number, previous Bills of Sale, SSR etc to assess whether the boat is the same. Clearly it is best if they are all in the same name, but as you changed the name a buyer may well place more reliance on your explanation than if the nam had been changed earlier. Even then an earlier change would then have some documentation history in the new name.

You could always change the name back to the original when you come to sell.

You will have continuity of a name change including documentation from SSR in Swansea. Not forgetting your Ships Radio licence which will also asssist in identifing your vessel. I'm rather surprised yours is not Part 1, as it's from around the era of buying boats on marine mortages and a stipulation that the vessel would have to be part 1 reg for them to foreclose should the buyer default.
As an aside - Nice work getting on the RCC fuel berth a couple of weeks ago in that wind!

Thanks both, should be OK then :)

It may have been part 1 originally, I'll have to check through the paperwork but the last owner had it on part III (it had expired) and I got it re-registered as I hoped we would be venturing abroad once we'd got a bit more used to it.

I did hope that no-one else had witnessed my humiliating attempt to get onto the fuel pontoon!! Even with a fair few rpm's running on opposite drives, she just did not want to turn, hence my hurtling down the river sideways on for a while...
Funnily enough, that fuel top-up was for the departure to Ransgate an hour or so later, and North foreland was absolutely fine! A little lumpy, but far better than that chop in the river suggested!

The HIN (Hull Identification Number) is like the VIN of a car more important to the authorities then the Boat Name [Car Reg No]. I would say at least 50% of names change when a boat changes ownership
