I have noticed over the last few weekends that the Transom of my boat moored in Portsmouth Harbour has become covered in what would appear to be tiny brkown fly eggs. The effect is so severe that I initially thought it was rust !!

After cleaning (hard ol scrub they dont arf stick guv) i noticed the flies arriving in even greater numbers to do it all again. What with the crows and the flies its becomming a full time job to keep the boat clean.

Has anyone else noticed the same and if so what have you done to dissuade the little buggers ??

Thanks in advance

I don't know what you should do ....... but it looks like the side effect on humans is iffy typing disease !

We let spiders nest on board, but then you get webs.

There's some wonderful tiny spiders about that seem to fly through the air, blown by the wind on short lengths of web, then in the middle of Chichester harbour....they land on our boat : haven't got the heart to chuck 'em off.

I don't believe that it's flies. Normally flies don't lay eggs that glue themselves on to grp quite so well. I think it's that big smoke stack over southampton water.

Anyway whatever it is, if you bosh some polish on the boat and leave it all smeary, then wash it off next time, the bionic fly eggs (or whatever) may wash off.
