We have a Princess 32 with twin Nissan Chrysler diesels 106hp.Can only get max 10.5 knots flat out.8knots at 3,000 revs. This is with 15x17 'high speed props and is the best attained yet. We have tried 16(max)x18 and 16x22 standard props to no avail! Fed up with seeing Princess 32's advertised as doing 18 knots. How? She did this speed when new.(1977) so dont expect that speed now but 14/15 would be nice. Has anyone out there got similar boat or similar problem? All help gratefully recieved.

I have a Princess 32 of 1973 vintage fitted with twin Volvo AQD32's and 270 outdrives. The engines are actually Indenor/Peugot blocks rated at 106 hp at 4000 rpm so pretty similar to yours I would say.
I am on the non tidal Thames so cannot really go much above 5 knots due to speed restrictions. However I can tell you that at below 2000 rpm I would be well over the speed limit and probably in excess of 8 knots.
I would suggest that you:
a) ring Princess and ask them what the supply fit props would be for your boat - their records are excellent and if you can give them the yard number even better. On Volvo legs like mine they would probably be 15 x 15 or thereabouts and not 'high speed'. Also, what revs are you getting flat out? Chances are with wrong props you will not be achieving max design revs so HP will also be down and max speed reduced significantly.
b) ring Steel Developments 0208 874 7059 who are prop specialists and will talk you through the problem/possible solutions. They may even be able to modify your props to achieve correct performance.
The 16x18 and 16x22 props were definitely out of order IMHO and would only be suitable for lightweight planing boats.
Good luck

First thing is chuck over the side anything that is not bolted down.Next you will need a smallish amount of fumes in the tank. Not a single spot of moisture in the water tank.Only one battery to keep the engine going.Dump any canopies/unneeded ropes/fenders etc etc.You will also need to have the weight of an anorexic race horse jockey. The bottom will need to be as clean as a babies bum.you may actually then be able to get for short periods close to the quoted speed........Ooo and you will also need to get rid of all those bottles

Exercise is bunk.If you are healthy, you do not need it;if you are sick you should not take it.

I have just posted a similar query (before finding this). I too have AQ32's and I am concerned at getting only 13/14 knots - sounds as though I am doing OK!
