Last weekend our 1.6 kW Propex eater died. Te fan was making "bearing" noises and then it seized and blew the fuse. I took it to bits, only to find that the bearings were fine, but the armature has been rubbing on the inside of the magnets. I don't quite know how this has happened. It hasn't been bashed or dropped. There's no discernible play in the bearings.

Does anyone know:

(a) if I can grind a bit off the armature without adversely affecting anything? (presumably the motor will go out of balance slightly)?

(b) if it's possible to get a replacement motor?

The motor markings seem to be unique to Propex. It says "Propex" on it and E-2819-420-009 and "N26 Canada".

Thanks Cliff. Originally spoke to someone who wasn't especially illuminating, (just said it would have to go back to them) but then he passed me on to another chap who was dead helpful! The motor is no longer available but he's going to quote me for putting together a kit of parts from a later heater that I could then retro-fit to mine.

Yes, had to fit a new motor to mine a couple of years ago. Found Propex very helpful. The new motor is slightly longer than the original and involves fitting a new case end plate that has a "bulge" to accommodate the extra length. From memory only adds about 8mm to the overall length. New type motor also slightly more powerful.
