Prop Wrap and insurance

I was with MS Amlin and they paid up, no quibbles, for a random gear breakage, resulting in an expensive accident
Just tell them all the expenses the mishap caused you, they may pay for things you had't thought of asking for!

Of interest maybe with MS Amlin a few years back I took it up myself to enquire what cover is actually covered when leaving the boat unattended @ anchor .The policy was silent so naturally I thought it would drop into the all risks category.
The reason at the time for my further clarification was that Med based ( CdA ) as the family grew we started to move around more , Corsica, Elba , Liguria, Levente coast in school hols , decent conditions and the “ inn was full “ so would ( boat had geny and ACon ) anchor off more and more and go ashore at night .Mostly doing what ave families do ashore on hols .

What came back was something along the lines of “ good seaman ship “ ie they would refute a claim if the boat was out of line of sight and / or i was unable to return within 30 mins .
There was nothing and still is not anything written in the Amlin policy.I challenged this and the answer ( from MS Amlin NOT the broker ) that came back was something along the lines of “ we cannot write up every eventuality in the policy wording “ and we would consider leaving it unattended out of line sight or you got yourself into a position whereby that you were too far away to return within 1/2 hr negligent and poor seaman ship like so would refute such a claim .

The point is just because it’s not in exclusions nor written up as covered does not mean it’s not covered or excluded .

They might play the basic seaman ship card .Bit like excerise of seacocks , does not say anything in the policy , but a claim because of a stiff seacock unable to shut off would imho trigger a “ lack of basic seamanship maintenance “ refute ...blah , blah .

You could ask like I did .
In this case “ am I covered from “prop wrap “ damage irrespective of who’s rope and it that cover applicable to the [ list the likely knackered stuff ] .

They may come back ( the Op s hesitation ?) .....yes if it’s a flotsam , but no if it’s crew dropping ropes in a Marina or you hit a pot .
Rational - “ good seamanship “ means you brief / train your crew appropriately and do not go out to sea with numties , and similar keep eyes ahead and choose sensible navigation speed and day light to avoid pots etc etc .

You say “ I thought all risks “ meant all risks and theres nothing in exclusions .
They say “ exclusions “ is not an exhaustive list it’s just typical common exclusions and they reserve the right to refute .
All risks is no cover all for recklessness and lack of basic seamanship, like crew dropping ropes etc .In such claims the Co reserves the right to refute .

I have since moved to a Co that insures/ covers leaving the boat unattended @ anchor in marked on charts anchorages written in the policy .Written follow up this include out of line of sight and for reasonable time periods in sheltered bays .
So we can go ashore , head into back streets for a meal,or hire a car , even spend a night in a hotel etc etc and be covered .
