Prop tweaking

I had new props fitted to my Volvo DP leg at the beginning of the year, standard parts, not SS.

However, I can rev over the max engine speed, so am thinking of having the prop pitch increased to get more speed for less revs.

Is this a common tweak, or should I leave well alone?

Thanks...

I've had a couple of props re-pitched.

Depending on the history of the prop, I've had one repitched by 2 inches though I think it's a bit extreme as it subsequently cracked. Having said that, the prop was

a) brass
b) badly de-zinced
c) old

The limit is probably 1 inch either way. but they can certainly be tweaked. Unless they're plastic.

Cheers,

Your right in saying that they can safely be repitched by an inch either way. I had mine done while it was being refurb'd. I was told to work on the basis that for every inch of pitch I'd either loose or gain 300rpm engine speed.
I'm not sure if its the same for duo props. It would be worth contacting your prop people to find out for sure.
