Does anyone use it.

Has anyone seen any clear results.

Is it any good

Is it worth the money?

Has anyone compared it with the lanolin used to smear on babies nether regions ?

Prop Shield is the best known brand name and given that you either have to melt it onto the propellor or trim tabs I'm guessing its slightly different to nappy rash cream!

There's a fuller preview on page 32 of the June issue of MBY (out this Thursday). I will also be applying some to the propellor and one of the trim tabs of my boat this Summer to see how effective it is or isn't. If after six months in the water I am going round in circles at a 45 degree tilt, you can take it as read that it's worked!

I wouldn't bet on it based on that alone!

There are two types of lanolin - one contains water and is ued for baby's bottom. The other which I buy is very stiff, devoid of water and needs to be heated tp put onto the stern gear - its the same product at a fraction of the price.

I'll let you know next year! I've just got some and will be putting it on this weekend. I'll be applying it to the entire sterndrive and as per the instructions will be using white spirit for the first coat.

Then I guess for the second coat, which it states must be applied heated, I'll take a camping stove down there and warm it up in that.

Anyway, if it keeps the snot monsters at bay, I'm sold /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I certainly use Anhydrous Lanolin on my prop and it works well. You have to smear it on thickly and then heat it up with a blow torch to smooth it. Works well on the East Coast. A tub I bought about 4 years ago is still only about ½ used and from memory cost about £7.50. You don't seem to be able to get from chemists anymore and I used a firm called Baldwins who do a lot of natural creams and potions etc. See http://www.baldwins.co.uk/

Applied it to my boat a few weeks ago, a little bit awkward applying i.e. first coat with white spirits and the second coat was heated by filling a bucket of hot water. You get one brush stroke before it gets lumpy.

Just applied to my props and the finish result make yours props look like they had rusted.

I will let you next next year if it is any good, checked it the other day and seems to be doing good.

As I had some trilux anti-foul left over, i just overcoated it with propshield so if it does fail i have some backup /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif and yes i did check with propshield.

Re: Picture proof

Thanks for that everyone.

There appears to be something in it, whether one should use a proprietary product or sheep fat is another matter.

The trouble with this trade is that there are so many vendors of snake medicine.

I will try prop shield i thinks.
