I would like to have the pitch of the 22" diam. prop. altered by 1" from 14" to 15." The approx. price quoted was fairly stiff & I wonder if anyone can recommend a company in the South East.

Hopeful thanks,

John G

A question. Why do you need to make such a small change of pitch? Have you been advised it is currently wrong or do you think it is wrong? In the past my late father had a prop altered at great expense and it failed to do what he expected, and I am worried that you may fall into the same trap. Altering the pitch of a prop is not an easy task and could cause more problems than it may solve.

Have you compared the cost of alteration to the cost a new prop? Bear in mind the cost of altering the prop may be double the initial cost to return it to its orginal pitch as it may not do as you want, plus it will never be exactly as good as it was before alteration.

Thank you for your interest. I wish to alter the pitch in order to increase the 'thrust.' The change is small because I understand that it is difficult to make large alterations & I think that a small variation is unlikely to produce any undesirable effects. The original spec. is from the manufacturer but, to quote Dave Gerr " ....it is nearly impossible to account for the many subtle differences between similar propellers of different manufacture." In essence it would, I hope, be a small change which would give a marginal improvement.

I suggest you pass your theory before a professional such as Lake Engineering, Darglow Marine or such.
They might save you making an awfully expensive mistake.

Many thanks to you all for your contributions. I have consulted Darglow & obtained an approximate quotation - less than half of the first.

ATB,
