Anyone got a prop puller in the Chichester area I could borrow ??

Boat is out at Hamble point and needs the prop taking off so we can put the replacement one on... but my puller isn't quite long enough to get round the prop and onto the shaft ...

Don't normally need a puller. Give the hub a tap with a hammer and a heavier hammer the other side to absorb the shock. As its on a taper as soon as it is free it will pop off. Make sure the nut is still on the shaft otherwise you will have an unguided missile!

Tried the hammer tap - didn't work ... managed last time with a puller, just need to apply enough pressure before the tap ...

not worried about the unguided missile - we're replacing it anyway.

I had this problem. Got rround it by taking out entire shaft with prop still on. Shaft then fed through heavy ring spanner in vice so that prop centre boss acting as a collar. Warmed prop gently with blow lamp then pullled shaft to tap prop boss on ring spanner. The prop shook loose very nicely Martin

Cheers - I've got an idea using an open ended spanner, a large bolt and a g-cramp .... hopefully do it next Sat, but if it doesn't work then the boat isn't going anywhere so it could wait - I'll let you know!! Cheers!

No intention of taking the whole shaft out cos I think it'll interfer with the rudder (not tried, but it looks like it will) - but I'll give the heat application a go with a makeshift puller - with a sharp tap it should shake it loose
