Prop problem

If the boat is the one in the OP's profile (Elizabethan 29) then the ideal solution is a Featherstream feathering prop with its in built anode, plus the performance gains - but at a price!

Well worth the price but, Featherstream anodes are expensive at around £40 with postage and only lasted a year on my boat as they dissolve away around the thin fixing area where the bolts are. Life doubled by antifouling the bolts and bolt holes through the anode to insulate them as there's plenty of base contact anyway. Have also added a shaft anode.

Mine dezincified when I fitted a new engine with a plastic coupling, which wasn't bridged. C&O engineering have repaired it twice when I dinked it, but they say it can't be done any more. Still going after 12 years.

I has a similar problem to Fisherman. There was a plastic flexible coupling on the shaft, but there was no electrical bonding across it. Once electrical bridging installed, no further problems. (Have a shaft anode as well). David.

Where on the Orwell are you? Is it Fresh water or Salt.

There are others that are experts but can I raise the question of different types of anodes for salt and fresh water.
