I don't agree: surely we're talking sailing boats here? Anyway, expenditure has to be a compromise too for most of us. And the complicated (expensive) option does not match your implied need for absolute dependability. In practical terms, if you need the best all-round performance, including maximum motoring efficiency, a few percent sailing penalty, and 100% reliability, fit a three-blader. Feathering props and folding props are for racers and ocean cruisers (for whom the very small gains are significant), and hobbyists (who are perfectly entitled to spend to please themselves).
