Am trying to decide which engine will cause the last day when sailing .the boat is a small 18 feet trailer saller . The Honda 2.3 prop is ,7.25x4.75 . The tohatsu one is 7.8x8. they blade Aria is roughly the same for each proeller . A netseach says that the higher the pitch number they moredrag.thankyou.

Doubt you would notice any difference. if you want to reduce drag, lift the engine out of the water when sailing. The drag is not just the prop but the whole amount of the leg in the water.

My mariner prop spins very freely in neutral, not much drag when rowing.
My little yamaha 2 has no neutral, the fixed prop can create enough drag to tilt the engine. Not that it takes much to tilt a 10kg engine I suppose....

I recently experimented with a elephant ear/Mickey mouse type prop and it killed lght winderformamce stone dead. I am thinking small

Boats suffer much more . Probably something to do with hull wetted surface increasing less as you go big i.e brunel.
