I have a Volvo duoprop outdrive that has corrosion in the stainless props. Has anyone experienced this and how was it solved? I have a 65kb picture I would like to post but can't find away to.
Volvo replaced the props 2 years ago, saying that it was a manufacturing fault, but as it is happening again I think it is something else, the boat (Cranchi Ellipse) is standard it is kept in the water here in Spain for 5 months per year, I have no shore power, the anodes are wasting at a normal rate, the boat also has the Volvo positive current system fitted. Comments please!!

Once the anodes get below 50% they are not giveing enough surface area to protect the boat fully, so if you double up on anodes or add a bar anode. you mite find this helps. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Thanks for that, I renewed both anodes before launch last season, I feel that Volvo must have come across this before as there are thousands of outfits with the same setup ie. Volvo Penta 5.0Gi DPS. But why should the stainless be getting attacked, the alloy of the outdrive is much less noble?

but the anodes may be enough for the leg but not the props, you can fit a small triangular anode on to the legs, this may help more directly, Give volvo a phone, Its has been found that some marinas are more anodo eaters than others. Some places have to replace there anodos twice a year or more.Hope this helps. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
