I'm up to speed with the difference of opinion between antifouling the prop or putting lanaolin/grease on it.
Usually up to now I have just double antifouled it and it has been reasonable. However I notice a drop off in motoring speed towards the end of the season. This , of course could be due to general fouling on the hull.
I fancy trying hard antifouling like 'prop-o-derv' or Trilux this year , just to see if it is better.
Doing a survey of most boats on the hard at the moment I note that most are using grease only , applied over a very shiny prop.

It might be me being too lazy to sand all the antifoul off but I came up with the idea of applying hard antifouling and then coating that with grease ?

Theory being once the grease has dissolved slowly away , then I get the benefit of the antifouling.

Anybody tried this and had any results ?

In 2007 I put Lanocote on my prop, it came out OK last year. However last year I just polished the prop and put nothing on it. Came out fairly clean with just some calcium deposits on it and a bit of worm that we get in Chi Harbour.

I also 'look after' a boat in Southampton and last year we put prop shield on it, the prop came out clean.

I used Trilux last year, total waste of effort /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
Half of it peeled off, and the rest provide a tasty feast for barnacles.

This year I am trying a recommendation here of
a) high degree of polish followed by
b) several coats of Owatrol

Might as well try something different

Have tried antifouling, lanolin etc previously with little success. This year I am going to warm the prop up and then paint molten candle wax on to it.
Anybody tried this
