Prop and Shaft - lost and found

Despite the shocking weather over the last couple of days we made it out to look for Cottontail's lost prop shaft, using a budget sonar unit and a tender we scanned the approach channel... We may or may not have found it too!

We cant be sure as it was too cold for anyone to dive and either the tide or winds were too high to go probing with a stick or other retrieval device, so we have marked the prime suspect on the chart and will try again in the week.

We passed over the same spot a dozen times, and on nearly all of them there was a clear return from the sonar of 'something'. It seems my prayers for a lesson in patience have been listened too. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just in case, If it's not your prop shaft. I claim it, I dropped it over the side last year, whatever it turns out to be!

how deep is the "contact" i just wondered if you could use a seascope thingy - or is it too murky

We had it at about 8-9ft, at LWS there should be less than 6ft. The water is fairly murky, ideal time round there seems to be just before high tide or just after low tide.

In March 2015 you'll have the lowest tide in 25 years, so if you can wait until then, you won't have to dive deep.
