Fundamantal misunderstanding

TCM, although well-meaning I fear your automobilic advice is somewhat off the mark. Well known fact that all senior educationalists are either:

A) Right wing bigots with ideas above their station, suited only to back-stabbing in senior common room. Haven't actually taught since 1991, as it's a bit beneath them. Generally seen wearing a far better suit than the local MP, and long married to rarely seen wife of the 'fragrant' variety, possibly named Hilda. Female version of such will bear a striking resembalance to the 80's version of Margaret Thathcher, esq, but without the sparkling wit and humour.

B) Member of the SWP, heavily into corduroy, Clarkes' Cornish pasty shoes, 50% chance of an unimpressive beard. Will no longer be married but will be shacked up with a mature student of either sex and knocking off immature students (of either sex) from time-to-time. Sharply-honed skills for back-stabbing in senior common room, but uselss at teaching. Female version will resmble current edition of Glenda Jackson.

Car for A must be either a recent top model Audi saloon, or an older but immaculate Jag XJ6 .

Car for B - anything French, 5 years plus old, with appropriate campaigning stickers such as "M6 toll road - no thanks", "Fox hunting should be bloody well banned", "New Labour = Class Traitor" or "Fair Pay for Lecturers."

Re: Oh Dear

I can see the appeal of an oil burning Espace to a doyen of academia. After all they do look something like a school minibus. But caution is required. They are after all French. From the brochure they do appear to have been sprinkled with the pixie dust of sophistication but it is rumoured that they are built by only the most hamfisted of N.African artisans, from materials that failed the stringent tests at the Lego factory.

My limited experience of the marque does include the interesting experience of having the complete headlining assembly fall on me while I was driving down the Marylebone Rd. This rather restricted my steering options. Thrust up through the sunroof hole as I was. Getting out took a bit of gymnastics to.

The cars owner was surprised when the dealer kept the car for three weeks. The dealership, not having employed any nomads from the desert wastes, had no idea how to mend it.

Have you considered a Sinclair C5, more your style I'd have thought.

BTW congratulations, promotion yet again! They just can't keep a good man down. Does this mean that wWith yer own office and presumably a name plate on the door you'll now have to do your lechering from afar?

Re: lechering guide

tsk, shows how much you know about further education. There's planning meetings, reports to be written to identify how fab your course is, funding meetings and applications, project evaluations. *maybe* there might be enough time for some lechering BUT NOT MUCH and all the admin peeps and esp all the students hold those who almost no teaching in very high regard indeed. Paertly, there's no teaching cos of all the marching around the campus between all the meetings, and partly the meetings as above, and of course lets face it the blimmin students don't turn up that often, never before 10 and never in the afternoons and only for 6 months a year, so it's not too easy to find them in a lecture room ready to be leched at. Ultimately, the very top academic people do no teaching whasoever and write an unfathomable book, like S Hawking.

Re: lechering guide

I'm sure you must be mistaken, I bet loads turn up before 10 o clock as that would only give them an hour before the union bar calls time!
