Have a project looking for a new home. 33ft Cornish lugger built in 1912. PM for details.

She is a Cornish lugger called Foam built in 1912 believed to have built by Henry Roberts of Mevagissey as a fishing vessel. Registered on the historic ships register No. 2769. There is a page on her on their website. These luggers are rare and there aren't many left, there has been a resurgence of restoring and rebuilding these over the last few years.

Solidly built fishing vessel with sawn oak frames and a pitch pine deck. It is believed she would have had a dipping lug rig with a small engine. Carvel built, with pitch pine on double sawed oak/iroko frames with pine deck. Extensive work carried out in the 1980's including keel, transom deck replacement. She has concrete and pig iron ballast. There is a selection of sails (latest believed to be 2007) for gaff ketch rig. All spars (main mast and top mast need repair work). She requires restoration and will need work done on the hull, the cabin top etc.

I have removed the old plywood interior to expose the hull and to help dry her out. In line Ford engine and separate generator. Hydraulic (with option of tiller) steering. She is undercover in Sandpoint marina and easily transportable by truck.

How long has she been out of water, how watertight is she at present, are motors fit to go - is it possible to post more photos please?

She has been out the water for approximately three years. She is not watertight at present, as repair work is needed on the hull. She will need some new planks, caulking etc. As I'm sure you're aware, with a project boat like this obviously more repairs may be found. A remarkable amount of the boat I have found to be sound.

I am assured the engine worked before she came out the water and I have not had an opportunity to run it. I am encouraged by the fact I can turn the prop. There is also a separate generator.

The cabin top may need rebuilding (and the dog house if you decided to keep it). The deck will also need resealing.

I thought one of the principles of these forums was that items for sale should end up in the for sale forum and that you should at least make an attempt to abide by these. I for one don't want to see a load of for sale posts in a forum for sharing information not selling of old tat and junk which is where this will end up. So stick your post where it is most suitable.

No mention of for sale was mentioned, and PMs and an offer could have resulted between forumites if someone was interested as I was.

If old boats don't find new owners then we wouldn't have any classic boats so I find the implication of this boat being old tat quite insulting, especially to a new forum user.

Unfortunately the OP has now put the boat on the For Sale forum and says he is open to offers which means he has broken the forum rules, which I'm sure someone will give him another rollicking for.

I am quite chilled thanks, but I dont want to be seeing posts on things for sale! These forums other than the for sale/wanted forums are after all the place for expressing an opinion and hence I have done so. I apologise to the OP as I had no intention of suggesting his boat as old tat or junk, having re read the way i wrote clearly it would be read as such. No offence intended. I dont however want to see posts on things for sale or in fact suggesting something might be for sale here. This is not dissimilar to the post on the Harley Mead boat back when this forum got re-started. Whether it was the OPs intention or not it was easy advertising his boat for sale, there are plenty of places for that, use this forum for better use like the item on the austin 300hp racing engine which was a great post.

As was pointed out by another poster the way I wrote my response was rather poorly written and i had not intended to refer to your boat as old tat or junk, what i meant was simply that this is what could happen should others start offering items in a similar manner. Sorry for that and I hope you do mange to find a home for the boat.

Bit of drift here but ... i do think there is a difference between a posting about a project boat and general items for sale.

I don't think id ever look in the for sale area for a project, yet all of us here love to see projects brought back to life.

I see both points of view but tbh I think there is space for projects on here. Interesting there is a webiste in the US where you can list projects for free or cheap. They even have a section for "give away" boats. All they are trying to do is to save them.

The folkboat thread has gone down that path. I don't see that as a problem and in fact would encourage people to post about projects they need to pass on rather then see them go for fire wood.

I have come to the conclusion that this is a very British method of education. Pounce on someone who knows less than you a humiliate them.
If that's you chilled, may I suggest a day or two in a freezer.
There is a thread on the forum you might feel more a ease with where they discuss the well being of another old fishing boat, maybe it would be better if you went there.

I come here with an interest in older boats and I am happy to see posts that are about them whether they are just a photo or an in-depth article, or for restoration, or even for sale, or a giveaway.

Been a bit tied up lately so only just managed to read this thread, and what Old_Salt says is spot on :encouragement:
Let's keep the conduct of this forum as polite and helpful as possible please, I for one do not want to see us lose the facility to discuss old boats on here. As for the OP, in my opinion he is right to post this on here, I wouldn't look at the for sale forum in search of a boat, well, not since last time :cool-new:

I think the opposite. If he wants opinions from "been there, done that" people he deserves the courtesy of an honest opinion.

Tis agreed that the various agendas on this site do have a list of - what its for - not that but this etc - but they are not absolutely clear and certainly do not cover all or even most circumstances, as I would suggest, they are written up not by persons of sufficient broad experience and knowledge, but show all the evidence of committees and an attempt to embrace what went before with an update to now. So we have a mismatch of instructions etc. (please do not ask me or challenge me to explain them, life is much to short, if when reading them you are satisfied and cannot see the errors, so be it). So I would suggest to the poster that he had the best intentions and did the right thing.
I would strongly suggest to the new op that he reads the Profile of anybody suggesting that he /she posts elsewhere and certainly if the objectors profile is mainly blank, them just ignore them and await further comments from posters or the mods, they are the people who's opinions count not Blank Posters who are, of course, entitled to their opinion, unfortunately.
