Hello everyone! :)

I live in Norway and work as a service technican(mechanic) for Honda Power Equipments.

For a year and a half i bought my first "big" boat with inboard diesel engine. My boat is a 1986 year Sollux 24 built in Saltrød in the south part of Norway.

The engine onboard is a Mitsubishi industrial marine diesel 4 cylinders, 33 hp non turbo. The engine is marinesed and built by Sabb in Norway, Bergen. The engine was installed in 1989/1990. The engine has a freshwater cooling system with heat exchanger.

I have done some improvemenst already and I will upload pictures of the work I have already done. Last summer I also bought an old Honda 100, 10 hp four stroke 1982. I use that engine on my Achilles LS4 I also bought last summer.

I will upload all my other pictures when I have time for that after school.

Here is my thread on the Norwegian boat forum, Baatplassen.no http://baatplassen.no/i/topic/84671-prosjekt-helios-sollux-24-uten-ac/

Best regards, Captain Norway! :)

Welcome to the forum Cap'n Norway

A nice looking boat. My Dad's mate used to have one of those back in the 80's, she was called Andiona. Was used on the Severn and the Bristol Channel and was a very capable boat which went surprisingly well.
Yours looks like a well cared for example, hope you enjoy her.

Is that the famous Sabb variable pitch drive diesel, one of the most economical shaft drives?

Think you will find it a 3 cyl Mitsubishi marinised by Sabb ... who stopped manufacturing engines and now marinise a number of marques imported to Norway, including Iveco etc... Sabb also had their own variable pitch propulsion back in the late 70's and early 80's..

To the Original poster;

Velkommen til forumet !

When your Sollux was made, we had a Tresfjord 26, we later moved on to a Tresfjord 28 and then onwards to other non-Norwegian produced boats.

The Sollux was actually pretty fast moving for it's time back in Norway and had a great following back then .... she is a good example of the era and will give you plenty of joy cruising in the fjords... a rather shallow foreship and immitated clinker will make some noise with wavelets (klukkelyd for deg og meg), but will allow you too get into very shallow and sheltered bays...

Good luck !!

Thanks for great messages :)

My engine has a ZF Hurth Gear.

Here are som more pictures of my boat.

Very interesting , Fantastic photo's......keep up the good work. :)

Is there standing headroom in the forward cabin?

Hei Captain Norway, I also have a classic norwegian boat, a Draco 24 Styling which is an '87 model but after a full refurbish looks more like '07.
Where are you based, I am in Stavanger, and welcome to the forum.

Thanks Rustybarge! :) Nope, its not standing headroom in the cabin. It is about 160 cm high from floor to ceiling.

The old dashboard was a bit boring and wrong dimensions. I decided to remove it and build i new one in teak.

P1010147.JPG

I made multiple sketches and 3d models in google sketchup. I also made prototypes in cardboard and wood.

The first prototype was to "square" so I rethinked and redesigned it and made it a bit different.

This was the hardest part to do. I had to cut a teak plank in 8 pieces and laminate them together

I sanded the parts after they where glued together. After that I filled in "plastic wood" in the small cracks.

Hi Spannerman! I'm sorry I did not see your post :o I live just few minutes outside Oslo. Du har en ganske fin båt! :) Hadde du en tråd om den på baatplassen.no eller husker jeg litt feil nå?

I installed a completely new electrical systems also last winter.

I cutted a big hole in the wall between the dashboard and bathroom. This would make easy access to the electrical systems and will let me install a mirror easelier.

P1040728.JPG

I also needed to connect the hydraulic steering system. I needed to install some new shaft seals or what they are called in english ;)

P1050015.JPG

I took an old mirror and glued some teak planks to it. What are that teak planks called anyway? I glued the mirror and teak planks onto a plywood picese, as big as the mirror.

P1050282.JPG

Smooth....

P1050281.JPG

I also glued the hinges to the back of the mirror.

Mounted a new fuse holder on the back of the mirror

Hi!

I'm sorry I have not posted in a while because I had exams in math and some other important stuff at school.

When I installed the new electrical systems, I ordered new switches and instruments. I installed Superswitch and VDO Viewline.

I also bought a used(but taken good care of) Garmin Gpsmap 198c with sounder from a good friend. Maybe he will make a thread about his project here at YBW ;)

P1060359.JPG

I oiled all the woods in my Sollux, with Owatrol's oil for wooden boats.

P1060536.JPG

there was a clicking sound I got away by adjusting the valves

Temporary position just for testing if everything works as it should do  I desided to continue using the old VDO tachometer, because it works perfect.

It astonishes me that people have so many varied skills. Well done, it is excellent work, and I hope you have a fine boat and many sea miles together.

Excellent thread. I admire the skills that some people have, as well as their patience. That's a great job and a fine looking boat. Please keep us updated.

Great project and welcome to the forum. We love projects like this with lots of photos thanks. Your woodwork skills look to be professional I guess you are in the trade or have experience. This is not the usual DIY level of skill here. Please keep the pics coming.

Thanks :) Ehhh... I'm only 17 years old and have not completed my education yet ;) I study science and hopefully become an officer in one of the biggest cruiseships one day.
