It just happens to be a Profurl...... but it is jammed like this:

Tried to drop the genoa and the collar slid down easily.... until it didn't - it's just stuck about 1/3rd down. Couldn't 'encourage' it down any further without stressing the luff wire (it's a twin groove foil). I'm guessing there's a ding somewhere on the foil which is snagging the collar. What to do? Is it better to undo the forestay and draw the whole thing towards the mast, go aloft and try to sort it? Or dismantle the foils one by one from the bow (boat is bow on to pontoon) till the offending section is revealed? And will the mast need supporting while the forestay is off - loosen backstay? The mast has an inner forestay and three shrouds each side.

I have had to do similar to you and went for removing the foil section by section. I loosened the backstay a bit and used the spinnaker halyard as well as the babystay to hold the mast up. That was the first time I removed the foil but it came down regularly after that. It isn't as easy as it sounds but if you keep tension on the forestay it goes OK. Just beware of loosing bits over the side.

Won't be a ding. One of the grub screws holding the foils together will have worked its way partially out.

Sorry to bump this but how to check the fastenings with genoa attached and foil over forestay ? I can't think how - I can go aloft but it's too far out to reach, so I guess the forestay must come off so it can be led back to the mast within reach........ or am I missing something?

When I had this happen I hauled volunteer up the mast and then pulled them horizontally across.
To get sufficient horizontal pull we did it in the marina, bows in and pulled from the end of the opposite finger berth.
Remember to give them the Allan keys to take up.

I had that, and had to lower the whole thing. Then I had to tap out the stripped hole, a bigger size, and fit a bigger screw, then re-rig. It took all of an hour.

Oh yes, I rigged the baby stay, which is normally only rigged for the storm jib. Just be glad you're at a marina berth, and not at sea.

As the op said unless you can get the sail off, which he can't, then the only way is to take it all down unless you get a quiet day and can get someone up the forestay with the sail unfurled.
