And after that we are all still in the dark!

Depends on how many of them possess the appropriate safety equipment to undertake such a task, and whether they have the correct certification.

Anyway, my guess is....
1 writing about it, 38 viewing it (in flat mode), and 297 anonymous voyeurs hiding behind the firewall.

What wattage and fitting type were you thinking of?
Is this a low wattage bulb, i.e. on the pulpit, or high wattage on the masthead?

Quite a few...

Those who more commonly frequent Mobo are wondering what a lightbulb is..
The Scuttlebutters are panicking about where to get a spare lightbulb
The classic forum'ers are wondering whats wrong with a paraffin lamp
The liveaboards are thinking... won't bother, can't afford a new bulb anyway
The PBO'ers are thinking... how do you change a bulb?... surely you need a dibbly 406-a7 to replace a dibbly 406-a7 and if you change it, it'll never work?

One to ask the question, how do I change my light bulb in the saloon.

Three to mock the asker for not getting out his chequebook and employing the yard as it will mean a full strip down of all the internal linings.

16 to remark on the spellings, grammar and absurdity of these posts not being on the PBO forum where they belong.

One long term member suggesting that a search of the forums should be made as this has been covered 120seventeen times.

one to suggest that everyone so far is an idiot and should make pancakes

one to be practical and go to B&Q for the bulb as it will then cost 8p and not the suggested price of £31.50 from the chandlers.

23 to get hot under the collar and inform the idiot that they are not marine grade bulbs and the neon is a different type on boats, the tungsten on the b&Q rubbish will set fire to the boat.

2 to arrive with scientific formula to prove that the bulbs are in fact the same in fact made by the same Filipino boy and put in different boxes.

4 to say that by using the wrong bulb the manufacturers warranty will be invalidated, and the mast will fall down or keel drop off.

8 to suggest that bulbs never blew in classic wooden boats, this is creeping failure rates that have always been suspected for cheap continental AWB's.

One from E Europe to suggest digging though the skip and fitting this instead.

18 people to say if it not hurricane lamps you might as well buy a caravan

1 from jockland to ask are lamps baby amps?

2 to suggest buying a new boat as the original is now to expensive to maintain

A 46 post argument suggesting that Mobo lamps are better than raggies.

Oh, and the original poster is never ever seen again, and the forum pats themselves on the back for getting rid of an insolent newbie.

actually, the classic forumites can be subdivided:

- those who use Lamp Oil vs the regular paraffinites.

- those with a spare chimney (not so many...)

- those with a spare Davey's Cone Pattern Chimney (very rare)

- those who can get a Tilley mantle to last more than ten minutes (even rarer!)

Surely someone must comment on lamps and their role in COLREG section 7 para 14 - and then discuss for several day whether it alters who is the stand on vessel ........ sorry dropped off there again /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Bear in mind that some of us would prefer to leave the lamp blown, because at the daft prices marinae charge for electrickery by not having a lamp, we can instead afford a meal out with all the trimmings, and get the restaurant's electrickery for 'free'.

Now, if we're talking about the lamp at the top of the big stickyup doobree that holds the sails up, I'm interested to have an exact answer coz my green-red-white is not alight.

Surely the answer is just one to hold it cause we all know scuttlebutters think the world revolves around them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The answer has to be "None" ... it can't be done in here, please pose the question on the PBO, Reader 2 Reader forum.

How many to change a bulb ? Easy -

1 to hold the bulb......

and 297 to turn the boat ! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

1 person to think "For cying out loud, it can't be that difficult".

1 person to make a cup of Tea to console the first person who has just found that in trying to extract the old light bulb, the light fitting disintergrated in their hands.

This is where I am in this process /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Anyone know a good place to source light fittings?

Regards, Jeff.
