I fly paragliders and we rely quite heavily on these private weather stations as they normaly provide up to the minute data.
You get used to making allowances for weather stations in certain wind directions and strength.
We always ignore the RAF weather station at Chivenenor on the north coast of Devon as it has a mind of its own. (Someone told me its sat in the base of a bowl).

I'm particularly impressed by our local one - by the people that: "Run and maintain the 'official' Met Office weather stations at Rhyl and Prestatyn". Great mixture of local, UK & global stuff, oddball stuff like lightning strikes & earthquakes, and if you click on the "At Sea" icon in the top right, you get live shipping movements via AIS for the Irish Sea (yes, I know you can get this directly...).

Have a look: Prestatyn Weather

(No connection with it, etc.)
