Printer problem

I feel a bit daft posting this on a boaty forum, but can anyone help? My Epson CX5400 printer has always worked perfectly, last week perfect colour and B&W. Things went a bit striped, I changed the cartridges and now nowt. Not a single mark on the paper despite all the usual printing noises. Do I bin it?

Should have said, I have tried all that. Plus non standard fixes like watering the nozzle parking bay and using damp paper towels across the head. What baffles me is the totally blank paper that comes out!

Sound daft, but people do sometimes forget to remove the air intake seal. No air in - no ink out.

dud cartridge ? have you tried the old one ?

You will no doubt have removed the protective strips so go back to the old cartridges. Even if you only get stripes you will at least know it is the cartridge rather than the machine

Never bin an Epson! they are all fitted with an ink counter chip, this is set to fail after a certain period of time. The gits do this to make you buy another, but it can be reset easily. This sounds like another problem though, but if it comes up on your maintenance screen that the printer needs service parts, its the ink counter.

There is also a "power clean" facility to really flush clogged heads amongst other useful utilities to keep you epson printer under YOUR control - not epson's control.

Thanks everyone. Will give it all a try. I have just dug my Canon BJ 10 out of the loft. Went first time after 6 years! Canon next for me I think.

If you run into problems putting an old empty cartridge back, don't try cheating by changing it with the machine off. My cartridge ran out before the counter expected it. It would not let me change it. I cheated, and it switched to fatal failure mode. Not even the software could sort it. (Though & am sure someone knows how to rest the counters manually).
