Princess\'s don\'t rock! (or roll)

I just read the test report on the MY 85 and can confirm it is all true, yesterday I had to deliver a V70 to our Bergen office, it was a magical trip. We left at 6 am and watched the snow on the mountains change colour as the sun came up. It was fantastic cruising through mirror flat fjords meandering through all the hundreds of islands and holms at 35 kts, 3 hrs later we tied up in Bergen. Then we had a full days seminar and departed in stately fashion aboard our MY95 with the Tracstar system, we cruised back through the fjords now ablaze with red and green channel lights and ever changing sector lights, it was like the approach lights to Heathrow.
We ran at 10 kts sipping a miserly 100 liters p.h. and the engines at 950 rpm, opening up to full power increases the speed by 14 kts but the fuel consumption rises to 1,000 liters.p.h. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
So as they said you cruise at much lower speeds, and this is where the system shines as the hull isn't really planing so the natural stability hasn't come into effect.
The boat was rock steady, we switched it off and immediately it started to roll and wallow as we encountered waves, switched it on again and it was like being on a scalextric track with only mild fore and aft pitching. This meant we could cruise at an economical speed in perfect comfort as we did in the main saloon having drinks while watching Top Gear on the sat TV.
Next week I have to test our two Nortechs after fitting even bigger motors (2x1250hp) fresh from the States, its a hard life!

Well the V70, the snow on the mountains, the mirror flat fjords, the hundreds of islands and holms, the town of Bergen, the MY95, and the two Nortechs, were the things that immediately sprang to mind /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

This is what I'm working to

Were you able to help with Jenny 7 then, Clive?
Do you know if she will be in Menorca next month?
It would be great to get the two Jennys together.

Re: Princess\'s don\'t rock! (or roll)

Hi Mike I do seem to recall they had four straps around Jenny 7 . I got my friend and local engineer to check all J7s stern gear and repalce anodes as necessary, then I helped them tie her up we she went back.

As J7 was going back in a customer arrived to view my boat, accompaned by the lady who runs Princess Banus sales, whom I introduced to J7's owner.

He did say, by the way, that me had talked to you about meeeting up in the Ballearics.

Re: Princess\'s don\'t rock! (or roll)

I know perhaps this boat is somewhat in a different league to the boats i've had the joy of owning but is there anyone else who nearly fell on the floor at the concept of 220 gph fuel consumption??

I'm sure its a fine cruiser though.

Re: Princess\'s don\'t rock! (or roll)

where did that figure come from ? My P56 crusing at 18knts does about 1.5 gpm so thats 18nm x 1.5 gpm ,...........27 gph innit?

Cant see how the P67 is nearly 10 times as much consumption, I know mine is light in comparision, but the engines are 1993, not these modern common rail things.

Re: Princess\'s don\'t rock! (or roll)

There are two MTU 2300hp engines with live fuel consumption on the engine monitoring screens.
The engines each have 3 turbos which work sequentially via electronically controlled wasegates. When all 3 are blowing they are shifting a huge amount of air, and so the fuel system has to inject the extra fuel to maintain the correct air/fuel ratio.
And 1,000 l.p.h. divided by 4.5 does indeed equal 222 gph.

Re: Princess\'s don\'t rock! (or roll)

still bloomin obscene how can they justify that, I mean mine does 25 knts is a great sea boat and cost a fraction of the 95 to run... I mean who would buy a boat like this.....................?................ someone wiv a dirty great big carbon foot print hee :~)

Re: Princess\'s don\'t rock! (or roll)

Yes - I'm sure spannerman was talking of the 95

For the record the P67 consumes about 170 litres per hour per engine at about 25 knots.

Every tie we worked it out and did our fuel estimates, we always came out at 13litres per mile total.
