Went to SIBS yesterday - less busy than I expected.

Quite taken by the Princess V58 - wasn't really looking at sports cruisers, but have owned one before and my wife is quite keen on them...

Did some forum searching and read some interesting views from a few years back, but what is the current thinking on this boat? It seems like it might be end of life to me, and I have a nagging concern that I might be spending a chunk of money on 2003 technology.

Anyone know if and when Princess is to replace the V58 in its range? Would you expect a strong deal on that boat right now?

Regards,

LWR

Deal wise I would expect something very good to be done. Jeanneau certainly give us a chunk of discount to allocate at the show, over and above what we can usually do, I imagine princess will be the same /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Give the dealer a call, the worst that can happen is that they can say no, or sell you a boat, depending on how you look at it /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Technology wise the electronics will have been upgraded with the times I would have thought, and the engines haven't changed alot... It may look a little dated but if the price were right, I cant see any reason to be put off one!

Other than of course a nice shiny new Jeanneau Prestige /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Princess have drastically changed their approach to new models in recent years. They are keen to present fresh designs on a regular basis in stark contrast to Fairline who would rather stick with proven formulas. The V58 is a V57 with a makeover and is off the pace compared to today's contemporary offerings. Glossy cherry, small portholes and no full-beam owner's cabin.

That's not to say it's a bad boat, but you did ask about it being near the end of its life, which I believe it is.

Not knowing that section of the market...

but I like the Windy Zephyros. Small(er) master but it's a Windy.

If you want to be daring and save quite a few bob, the Prinz 54 Coupe is very interesting, not least because you'll not worry about fuel bills.

look also for Gobbi Atlantis 55 (huge cabins) and new Sunseeker 52 Predator looks good tough I dont like much its too short bow
I think with Azimut Atlantis models usally last for a few years
consider also an Absolute 52 or 56 with IPS which gives a few saving at the pump

As a new buy i would say they are a little dated, to do with interior layout more than the exterior, which still looks ten times better than the chunky Fairline Targa's to my mind. Technology wise the thing to consider is IPS, which is creeping up to this size of boat (Absolute 56, Prinz 54 etc.). They are still great boats though, quite popular out here in the med.

Personally one of the big plusses for me with the fabric roof version was the huge opening in the hardtop, but the new boats have a fibreglass top like most other new hardtops which reduces the opening by a half. More durable i guess, but you must lose the wind in the hair feeling?

I would look for a 1-2 yr old boat and probably save yourself a packet.
