Am seriously thinking about upgrading to V42 from Sealine 34. Aware of most of the positive points. Are there any downsides or points to watch out for? Have only read good reviews of V42.

??? About to be superseeded by new model.

Princess V42 was on my list also, as was the Fairline Targa 40.

After seeing both at SIBS, I was really surprised that I like the Sealine S42 so much better. The S42 seemed to have much more cabin space, particularly in the aft cabin, compared to the V42.

I know that it's contrary to popular opinion, but I thought the Sealine build quality was better also.

Very interesting. Have always liked the S41/42 as it has acres of room. However have been put off in the past by stories of its handling problems. Sealine say they have altered the hull shape to correct this and the latest D6 engines (350hp) have enough power (kad 300's were rumoured to struggle a bit).

I am due a test sail soon. I don't believe Sealine have a build quality problem. My S 34 (2000) is excellent and better than friends Sunseekers & Fairlines. Their after sales service has always been good too.

Was only looking at V42 as it has a reputation for being a good sea boat. This is important to us as we do a lot of cross channel. Sealine prices have also risen considerably putting the V42 in the same bracket.

Do not like fairlines at all and certainly don't want a tender garage!

A RYA instructor told me at the SIBS that they were thinking of chartering a 41 for instruction days etc.

Did not proceed as the instructors had a problem with low speed manouvering. It seems a pig to park in tight places.

So, if you do go the sealine route I would look very carefully at this angle - hull shape change or no.

The S41, if that the boat you are talking about, once you get the hang of them are great boats, very very manoeuvrable!

Helmed a S42 a couple of weeks ago, great boat, and lovely close quarter and she was on out drives.

The F42/5 is the one most of the instructor training is done on in the Solent.
